Fun Stuff

Well, the time is almost here, and I am sitting at home blogging. New Year’s doesn’t hold the same water like it did before I had kids. But I figured I’ve had my share of the night life and enjoy sitting at home watching a movie…and trying to make it to midnight.

At least I have a great view of the large snow flakes coming down and I can’t wait to take my two year old out to the local hockey rink to try out his first set of hockey skates. I am an optimist for the new year. I don’t like to make predictions or make resolutions. Anything that happens, happens for a reason, so I just let life take it’s course.

Here’s to you all in the New Year!

St Paul has the chance to win the opportunity for HGTV to come to town and help three local improvement projects take flight through their new television program Change the World. Start at Home. Nine cities across the country are competing for life-transforming assistance – and viewers will decide through voting. Votes can be cast through December 21 at their website.

Click here to VOTE SAINT PAUL

According to the Historic Saint Paul website :

The Saint Paul projects feature a mix of historic preservation, community, education, and environmental improvement, including:

  • Helping a deserving family with an unfinished home renovation. After her husband passed away 18 months ago, Kris Nelson’s dreams of restoring their three-story Victorian era home were put on hold. She and her two sons hope to be able to complete their home with a help from HGTV, Rebuilding Together and the National Trust for Historic Preservation;
  • Transforming the grounds of the Wilder Recreation Center/City Academy. The WPA building was designed by Saint Paul City Architect Clarence (“Cap”) Wigington, the country’s first African American municipal architect. School administrators at City Academy building teach their students the importance of giving back to the community through volunteering and caring for the environment. Without a much-needed facelift, the growth of the school and neighboring community center is stunted by space and environmental limitations;
  • Restoring and interpreting the ecological and cultural resources in the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary, a Mississippi River area open space just east of downtown Saint Paul that includes remnants of our industrial and indigenous history. Though the park has come a long way since its days as a contaminated rail yard, there is still much to be done and it remains a work in progress.

So make sure to cast your vote for local historic preservation by visiting HGTV and casting your vote. You can vote once a day!

I was recently able to buy the domain name for my blog so that I can replace it with something other than blogspot.com at the end of it. You might notice that the URL above is now shown as www.MinneapolisLuxuryRealEstateBlog.com. My previous address for Blogger was http://MinneapolisLuxuryRealEstate.blogspot.com and it still works, but redirects to the new domain name. They both get you to the same place, but feel free to bookmark the new address. Sorry for any confusion, but I think the new address looks much better!

One thing I love about the Twin Cities is the freeway system. You can easily get around on multiple roads that criss-cross each other. The I-35 runs north and south, splitting into the 35W into Minneapolis, and the 35E which takes you to St Paul. I travel these roads the most. Even though some locals will tell you traffic is bad, I always tell them to try traffic around Los Angeles and San Diego first, then come back and let me know if traffic is bad here in Minnesota. It doesn’t even compare!
The 35 runs north to Duluth and goes all the way down to the Mexican border in Laredo, Texas. Dallas is the only other city where Interstate 35 splits into an East and West branch around the city.

I have just added a Luxury Home Slideshow to the Minneapolis Luxury Real Estate Blog that highlights homes for sale in and around the Lake Minnetonka area. Prices of luxury homes in the area range from $53 Million down to $1 Million. My hopes are that you love it as much as I do and have a further opportunity to see what Luxury means in Minneapolis.

I would really appreciate any feedback you have about this new feature. Do you like it, hate it? Does it make the page too busy? Should I place it further down the page? Does it distract you from reading my great posts? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!!!

I don’t know any other city that has a national landmark of a big spoon with a cherry on top. But the sculpture has become the most photographed item in Minneapolis. If you look on almost every website and publication about Minneapolis, the photo of the spoon and cherry will be there. Located in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, downtown is just within site and makes a great backdrop for tourists.

If you are looking for something fun to do with the kids, then travel out to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum this summer to experience the Maze. The Maze has a run for adults and older kids, and for the little tikes, a smaller hedge maze that they can see over. My two year loved running around the corners to hide, pushing through doors, and getting lost. There is even a tower where you can take a break and watch others travel the maze.

If you need that special something to finish off your local Minneapolis lake boat house, but haven’t quite found it yet, then check out these Water Ski Chairs that I read about in the local Lakestyle magazine.

They are made from vintage wood water skis, so no two are alike. According to the owner’s website, “We build each chair from “scratch”. Non-ski parts such as seat slats are made from white pine, primed and then painted with 3 coats of exterior enamel in colors to match graphics on the skis. The chairs are then assembled with stainless steel fasteners to avoid any rust or corrosion”.

Since the chairs are handmade, expect to pay a pretty penny for each chair. At $1049 per chair, make sure you plan on putting them to good use. What a great way to recycle old skis…I never would have thought of it!

The motto for Real Estate has always been Location, Location, Location! But for a wedding, sometime it is Date, Date, Date.

Today was 7/7/07. The news reported that there would be around 30,000 weddings across the nation today, just because of the date being all sevens. Well, we just came back from attending a wedding in the middle of Iowa today, and yes, they did get married today because of the date. So I was able to a part of the celebrations across the nation. Wow, was it hot!
